Crushing Flowers

Orly – “Crush On You”

IMG_3836

I’m still searching for the perfect neon-ish tangerine color.

Sad to say, I still haven’t found the exact color I’m looking for… so I’m still on the hunt. (If you know of any, please let me know where I should look!! Pretty please!)
I started blending some colors since I have so many “oranges” in this color range right now….

…..but ultimately, I decided I’d try again to find the pre-made color, and polished with the pretty Orly color.

Shelle’s too cute mani

Just as I suspected normandlou’s Super Easy Flower Manicure was wanted.  The Butterfly wanted it, but my sister chose the design and beat her to her manicure this week.

Turned out GREAT!  (Thanks normandlou!!!)

Stamping Shortcuts

A lot goes into stamping.  It’s much more difficult than all the konad enthusiasts, nail polish bloggers, and tv commercials let on.  I have much more respect for stampers now. For real.

I couldn’t keep the stamping straight (I tried so hard!) haha…so I had to add some tiny dots to try to distract… lol.  I hope it worked.

OPI – “Tutti Fruiti Tonga”

I think this is the most delicate design so far.

Now for the shortcut!

I realized that I would be using WAY too many paper towels, cotton squares and ENERGY at this pace.  So, I came up with the idea to use an acetone soaked sponge to clean the stamper, scraper and plates…as I stamped.

The apex of this idea came from the Butterfly!  She suggested I use a soapdish as the container to hold the sponge!!!!!!  This child is a genius.  GENIUS!! It’s the perfect shape and the shallow depth accommodates easy swipes of the plates and holder.  No paper towel or cotton square waste! And when not in use, I can cover the top.  SOLUTION!

Florals

I had to upgrade my iPhone.

Concomitantly, I had to search for a new phone case.  The cases in the store are ALWAYS UGLY!  Wait, hideous might be more accurate. And EXPENSIVE! as if the phone didn’t cost enough!  I’ve resorted to the deeply discounted and diverse case designs from Amazon.com. And for the price of ONE in the store, I ordered like 7 assorted designs online.  (But why do I need 7 of them??! Smile)

I saw this one…. and instead of purchasing it, I thought I’d try the design on my nails.  LOL.

And once again, I didn’t look at the picture before I started painting my nails.  HAHAHA.  I don’t know why I do that.  I literally just forget about the picture even though in my mind’s eye, I feel like I see the picture clearly.  I am going to start printing pics out and create a stack of potential manicure designs that will be right next to me at my manicure “station”.

All that to say, my nails didn’t quite turn out like the phone case…

Sinful Colors – “Black on Black”

… but I like them anyway.

I used a medium sized dotting tool and dipped it in both the white and dark pink acrylic paint at the same time to create my flower petals.  Then I used yellow acrylic paint for my flower center, and a fine liner monogram art brush with green acrylic paint for my little leaves.

The Leopard Struggle

I have been sooo scared to try a leopard design.  It’s been on my list of manicures to do for a WHILE.

…then came Audrey Smile. She inspired me.  Her leopard design came out SOOOO nice (pic)…. I felt challenged after she seemed surprised that I was scared…. so I finally worked up some nerve and…..

My first leopard design.

China Glaze “Papaya Punch”
w/acrylic paint design

I love this orange. I’m already a huge fan of orange…. I heart this color so much.  I had to “test out” the design first.  lol.  Still hesitant and SCARED!

After it came out okay… I tested out the rest of my nails.

I like it.  I’ll try it again.  Definitely.

Turquoise & Caicos

This is such a near dupe to China Glaze “For Audrey”…. (and my Tiffany pouch).  “For Audrey” is the tiniest bit bluer.

Essie “Turquoise & Caicos”

IMG_2959

The Essie formulation is a little thinner and streakier than I would have hoped.  This was three coats.  Still lovely.

But of course, I splashed all kind of dots over it.  This actually made me want to lay off the dots just a tad.

it’s not Spring

It’s freezing outside, so I couldn’t bring myself to use a “Spring” color…instead, I moseyed on over to my China Glaze Metro Downtown collection.

IMG_2895

I chose China Glaze  “Westside Warrior”

I still wanted it to be “girly”, so I added a flower of Sinful Colors “Vacation Time”, with a dot of gold metallic acrylic paint.
