Bears Fan

He has got to be one of the biggest Chicago Bears fans EVER!  I mean, Bears logo EVERYWHERE…. EVERYWHERE.

So, as I finished his manicure… complete with matte topcoat, he allowed me to have some fun and tolerated some nail art. Smile

And now we can add a new location for his Bears logo: his fingernail!

For him this is definitely extreme “fan-dom”, but I think it was kinda hot.   #DaBears Smile

So, I know I’ve been pretty negligent in blogging…. but as you can see, I’ve been busy.  Lol.

And I’m exhausted.  All my creative energy is drained, and I need to re-up.

I’m excited and anxious… and just trying to stay calm!!!  Smile This will definitely be a ride.  Hope you’ll join me… and stay tuned.

p.s.  my nails feel even more neglected than the blog.  I promise to pay more attention to both in just a second.

Stained Glass

Inspired by Kamsamnida’s Mosaic design, which I thought was beautiful.

I treated myself to China Glaze’s “Anchors Away Collection” this past weekend.  It was the perfect collection for this design.

Lighthouse – yellow {jelly shimmer}
Ahoy! – dark pink (magenta) {jelly shimmer}
Hey Sailor – red
First Mate – blue
Starboard – green
Life Preserver – orange
outlined with Sinful Colors “Black on Black”

On my left hand I used larger blocks of color, but I think I like the detail of my right hand with the smaller blocks.  Of course, it takes longer, but I think it’s worth it.

Using all jelly glitter/shimmer polishes would make this truly shine like a real stained glass window!

Sinful Colors–Feeling Great

& Essie “We Can Do It Pink”

I started here:

just couldn’t make a decision…. Hannah chose the stripes…. Nikki chose the polka dots.
After a trial…. Nikki’s choice looked better on… and then, I do still have that affection for polka dots. LOL.

Automatic Nail Polish Remover

I am falling in love with my new Automatic Nail Polish Remover machine.

Maybe for the wrong reason today.

I happened upon these Kiss Nail Art Stencil sets with striper polishes while traversing the aisles of CVS on a break from work.  Nope, had no business even going to that section of the store.

IMG_2603IMG_2602

Geeked is an UNDERSTATEMENT!  I was like Woot! Woot!  This might be a great alternative to purchasing a stamping kit…. which I have certainly been considering while perusing the zillions of nail polish blogs out there in the blogosphere with amazing nail designs.  I’ve been extremely hesitant because for some reason I feel like a purist with nail design and want the “graphics” to be organic.  *shrugs*  I don’t even know what that really means…SMH.  The stamps somehow seem contrived to me.  (Watch, I’ll have a stamping kit next week – with ALL plates available, will be singing the stamping praises and have the best rebuttal known to mankind to explain the contradictory behavior and mindset.  I should be a politician!)

I rushed home from work to create a work of art!!  -_-  NOT.   I ended up with this horrific blue monstrosity and raggedy stencil designs that weren’t worth the dot of polish I dabbed onto my nails.  :-/

China Glaze “Sky High-Top”

IMG_2604IMG_2605IMG_2606

Super underwhelming, ugly even.
And I can’t even blame the polish color.  I think it was brought down by the flat color choices for the design.  In the bottle, the color was really rather attractive.  Still fell completely flat.

These stencils:  ONE TIME USE ONLY!  No I don’t mean “use for multiple nails” for one time.  I mean, you can effectively use ONE stencil for ONE nail for ONE time and that’s pretty much the life cycle of the stencil.  Unnecessarily difficult to work with.  And though the material is decent for the first application, they don’t hold up.  The design easily stretches out of shape and is therefore no more good.  There is also no credible way to clean the old polish from the stencil.  I tried both acetone (which really I should have known was going to nearly melt the poor stencil – I mean, that’s what is used to remove acrylic nails and glue.  LOL) and polish thinner.  I paid approximately $8 for this stencil set.  At least I got 3 nail art stripers (which would have costs me about $2 a piece) and 24 stencils out of it.

THIS is where my super crush began on my new automatic nail polish remover machine.  LOL.
I can personally attest to this machine’s efficacy.  See for yourself:

**Disclaimer: “NO COTTON SQUARES WERE HARMED IN THE REMOVAL OF THIS HEAVILY TINTED NAIL POLISH.”  lol.

I got these results after having already removed the past 2 manicures’ polish which included acrylic paint dots AND 5 coats of glitter polish. I did NOT change the remover solution before removing this polish.  I was WAY too anxious to get this mess off my nails!

Glitter is making a comeback

….as if it were ever really gone. Though glitter is evil; GLITTER RULES!

I was on a glitter hiatus until I got my Automatic Nail Polish Remover Machine….
it arrived, and seems to work nicely.  So now to test out one of polish remover’s nemesis:  GLITTER.

…and to try a tape design, as inspired by Audrey (mine still wasn’t nearly as complex or creative as hers… but I’ll get there Smile).

I had an impromptu polish haul at Bed Bath & Beyond. They had everything in their nail section. I was surprised! Nicole by OPI, Essie & Sinful Colors had full out displays with a quite impressive collection selection.  So I picked up 5 bottles of polish, including these 2 Color Club selections…. that I certainly didn’t NEED.  But what’s need got to do with it?!

Wild & Willing”                                                    “Revvvolution”
IMG_2598   IMG_2599

I wish “Wild & Willing” was more opaque… “Revvolution” is perfect.  Reminds me of OPI’s “My Private Jet” and has a very smooth and covering formulation.  Just nice all around.

I’m still not a fan of tape Sad smile.  I guess I’m just too impatient.  I want to get on with the design.  I almost feel like I could have done just as good a job on the diagonal lines freehand… but that might just be my confidence on swell.  Tape works.  lol.  You just have to waaaaaaiiiiiitttttt for the base color to dry.

Instant Vintage

I have no reason to explain changing my nail color, except that I was experimenting with my new automatic nail polish remover machine when I came home from the New Year’s celebration….

IMG_2563  IMG_2564

I ordered the machine online from TransDesign.com.  For $18, it was a good purchase!! I’ll definitely save on cotton squares.  I told myself I wasn’t using glitter again until I received it…. as we all know the huge HASSLE glitter presents at removal time.  I haven’t yet used any heavy duty glitter polish, so we’ll see how it responds when I do.

After I finished my dot design, it just kept reminding me of some retro wallpaper or something…vintage.  And I actually liked the results on my right hand better than my left!  My right hand always gets neglected when it comes to picture taking… had to give the right hand some camera time today.

Beautiful Girl

Felt like a princess with a little crown after this manicure.

Maybe my expectations are too high now because I am not at all enamored with the formulation of this polish.  It’s a pretty color, but it’s thin, and slightly streaky.  You will most definitely have to use a minimum of two coats for any remote coverage and opacity.  I will still use it again… because like I said, it’s a pretty color.    Plus, I feel like a beautiful girl with it on.

Over Christmas

I loved the Christmas polish adventures…. but being happy that it’s over, I don’t really want to see anymore red and green polish for at least a couple of weeks!!

so I ventured as far away from Christmas as I could when I painted my nails this time.

…but just some little freehand dotted flowers.

As many others have reviewed “White On White”…. they are all right.  It’s a very pretty and creamy white polish…. once you get enough coats of polish on.  It’s a streaky polish, but I only had to use 2 coats to achieve these results.  I had initially planned on purchasing OPI Alpine Snow… and actually, next time I will.  #NoDiss

Santa’s Belt

OurPaintedWorld!!! <—(click for link to blog)

Cutest. design. ever.
As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to try it.

So, I used my favorite… OPI “I’m Not Really A Waitress”… striped OPI “Black Onyx across and made a “Glitter Hologram” buckle….

Voila! Santa’s belt.

I absolutely love this design. So fun! Really may work for any time of the year – if you’re a diva…. it’s all in the context.  Because it’s almost December 25th, we’ll just say this is holiday nail art.  Winking smile
